Yes we knew. But there were other problems as well, as bad. And the need to make dinner and go on with life. In the United States, and increasingly in the rest of the world, there was the takeover of self-indulgence. We forgave ourselves. Forgave ourselves for the unfortunate. That's what we called them. Those with Bad Luck. You were among them. You said nothing. "Let's look forward", our President said, meaning "Close your eyes. Nothing to see here." We are still alive now, he meant. Eat your dessert; go shopping. I'd say I am sorry. But this was beyond my control. Am I sorry about Mars or Venus? I failed and am a failure. No comfort to you. Or me. But I'm gone and I had an easy time. Thank you. You missed it.
