“I am praying that the world you find yourself in is one of great cooperation and compassion, where people are now thinking larger than themselves and where all sorts of clever and considerate things are being done to sustain the planet.”
Dear Future Children of this Earth,
As I write this letter to you, the world is on a collision course because of Climate Change. Leaders, corporations and people are so busy thinking of their short term interests and most seem to have little care about what the world will be like for you: whether it will be habitable, whether through our alteration of the planet that all other species will die off, whether there will be enough food and water for all.
I am praying that my own country, the United States, came forward and were the world leaders that they should be at the Paris talks. I am praying that they focused their great research ability, their strength and wisdom as a nation to lead the way to a brighter future. I imagine one where energy is used so efficiently that we are no longer adding great amounts of carbon dioxide and other gases to the atmosphere. I imagine one where we are caring for the soil so as to grow crops without chemicals and where the soil is helping us to absorb carbon in the atmosphere. I imagine that there are solar modules, wind turbines and other renewable energy technologies providing for almost all of our power and that fossil fuels are only used for special things where there are no other options. And that batteries have become so efficient that they help us store power and make it possible for us to drive electric cars instead of using combustion engines.
I am praying that the world you find yourself in is one of great cooperation and compassion, where people are now thinking larger than themselves and where all sorts of clever and considerate things are being done to sustain the planet.
That is my wish and dream for you.
